Rush for Carinthia200: Over 1,000 registrations – Villach on its way to becoming Austria’s new road-cycling capital

January 7, 2026

Villach, 7 January 2026

Shortly after registration opened, Carinthia200 is already sending a strong signal across the European road-cycling scene: the milestone of 1,000 registrations was surpassed within just a few days. This makes Carinthia200 the largest road-cycling race in Carinthia even before its premiere on 31 May 2026. The three distances of 125, 155 and 200 kilometres take ambitious road cyclists through Carinthia’s lakes and mountain landscapes, with the start and finish located in the city of Villach. Around 5,000 overnight stays are also expected in the region for the premiere.

Region Villach: A strategic boost for Lake.Bike and road-cycling tourism

Georg Overs, Managing Director of Region Villach Tourismus GmbH, emphasizes the strategic significance: “We launched this event with the mid-term goal of becoming the largest road-cycling event in Austria and expanding the Lake.Bike brand to include the road-cycling segment. The influx in the first weeks, however, has exceeded all expectations.”

Ambitious goals – a clear quality framework

Julius Rupitsch, Event Director of Carinthia200, explains: “We are starting with 1,500 entries so we can plan the premiere properly and communicate clearly. Entries will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis—additional quotas may follow depending on circumstances. Our goal is to position Villach and the region sustainably as Austria’s leading road-cycling destination—with a clear promise to participants, partners and the region.”

The event concept

Carinthia200 stands for a high-quality event concept with a clear focus on quality, safety and experience. Fully closed roads, professional organization and a strong host set-up create the framework for a road-cycling experience that consistently combines sporting challenge with road-cycling lifestyle. Villach and the surrounding region, with its lakes and mountains, provide an exceptional stage for this. The slogan “It’s my Ride”—a deliberate nod to Carinthia’s guiding phrase “It’s my life”—captures this ambition. Patrick Schörkmayer, Race Director of Carinthia200, adds: “With three distances, we address the full spectrum of road cyclists—from performance-driven athletes to beginners. At the moment, just under 500 spots are still available—so registering quickly is worthwhile for anyone who wants to be part of the premiere.”

Comprehensive supporting programme

The sporting event is complemented by a high-quality expo area, an attractive supporting programme, recovery and service offerings, and an integrated host concept for participants and accompanying guests. The goal is to establish Carinthia200 as a recurring flagship event in the Alpine–Adriatic region and to generate sustainable tourism value creation.
