Close coordination between organizer, tourism partners, authorities, and emergency services leads to rescheduling in autumn.
Villach, March 24, 2026 – The organizer of Carinthia200 announced today that the road cycling event originally scheduled for May 31, 2026, has been postponed. The new date is September 20, 2026.
The organizer, Pedal Performance Group, together with event partner Region Villach Tourism, as well as the responsible authorities and emergency services, jointly made the decision after careful consideration to move the event to September. Planned and necessary road renovations along part of the course have increased the overall operational complexity of the inaugural event. The approval process for the route on the new date has already been initiated by the organizer.
The strong interest and enthusiasm from the cycling community have demonstrated from the outset the potential of both Carinthia200 and the Villach region as a leading lake and bike destination: the event was sold out with 2,000 registrations just a few weeks after its announcement.
“This was not an easy decision for anyone involved. From the very beginning, the ambition of Carinthia200 has been to deliver a premium event concept in Carinthia that sets new standards in quality, safety, and overall experience,” says Carinthia200 Event Director Julius Rupitsch.
“The necessary post-winter road repairs on part of the route have further increased the already high operational complexity of launching a new event. Carinthia200 is designed as a recurring flagship event in the Alpe-Adria region, with a clear commitment to quality for participants, partners, and the region of Carinthia. We remain fully committed to this standard and do not want to compromise on the event experience for its premiere,” adds Carinthia200 Race Director Patrick Schörkmayer.
“All stakeholders are well aware that postponing Carinthia200 just two months before the planned date is disappointing for many people in the community and the region. We would like to thank all partners, participants, and guests for their understanding and flexibility, and we look forward to celebrating the premiere of Carinthia200 together on the new date in September. At the same time, we are working intensively on an additional community event for the originally planned weekend. The postponement gives everyone involved the necessary time to further optimize conditions and deliver the event at the intended level of quality,” Julius Rupitsch continues.
“Road cyclists can look forward to a unique event in September, taking them through some of Carinthia’s most impressive landscapes. For the Villach – Faaker See – Ossiacher See region, Carinthia200 is a strategic element in positioning the destination for road cycling tourism, combining international appeal with strong regional identity. Carinthia200 will establish itself as a recurring signature event and generate sustainable tourism value,” says Georg Overs, Managing Director of Region Villach Tourism GmbH.
